Meet Our Team
Mike leads a large qualified team with a demonstrated focus on providing excellent service, skilled workmanship, and customer satisfaction. After attending university, Mike established himself in the construction industry in the early 90’s in Vancouver, B.C.. In 1998, he accepted an offer to establish an office in eastern Ontario where for 12 years as General Manager, he ran the operation of a multi-national commercial hard and softscape contracting firm. During this time, he established many long lasting relationships within the construction industry, and in 2011, he set out on his own, and along with his team, continues to provide superior service and product while broadening the company’s extensive portfolio.
Clay Carter has been a member of Mike’s team for the past 8 years. Prior to the commencement of Merit Contracting, Clay spent his spring, summer and fall seasons learning commercial and residential landscaping, completing both hardscape and softscape jobs. Clay works on the interior and exterior side of the company, and now that he has completed his post-secondary education at Carleton University, he has recently taken on the role as Project Manager. Clay is a key member in helping build strong teams and forming lasting relationships with existing and new clients.
Originally from the Maritimes, Dan attended Algonquin College in the Building Construction Technician program and The University of Ottawa in Political Science. He has worked in construction and landscaping both in Ottawa and Calgary and, with his considerable experience, was asked by Mike Carter to join him when he created Merit Contracting. As a valued 10 year veteran of the industry, Dan has worked on a variety of projects from residential driveways and NCC projects on Victoria Island to the American Embassy and the American ambassador’s residence.
With 15 years experience in the construction industry, Ross Potter is committed to excellence. He has worked on new building construction including stick-framed homes, timber framed homes, and high-rise construction. He has also gained expertise in general home renovation and deck and fence construction. His on-site responsibilities have increased over the years and he has held the position of foreman for the past two years.
